The GOP, racism and the “Birther” movement: circling the bowl?

There was a lot going on in the world of US politics that I could comment on; the health care debate, the ongoing Dick Cheney-CIA-torture saga, Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination, etc. However, two specific topics have seriously captured my attention in the last few weeks and have compelled me to comment on them; the so-called “birther” movement, and the notion that Barack Obama is a racist, two theories that are dominating the right-wing media machine and Republican politics, both started by the radical fringe of the Conservative movement. The U.S. Conservative Movement: What The HELL is Wrong With These People?!?

I love America. Seriously, despite all of the horrible, idiotic, racist, arrogant things the U.S. has done since it’s founding, I LOVE America. I love it because of it’s promise; it’s still a work in progress. Most of all I love America because it every once in a while shows the ability to correct itself when it starts to stray off of it’s path. This is evident with the election of Barack Obama. The problem is, many Americans don’t want the pendulum to swing, and they’re pulling out all the stops in their quest to halt the inevitable.  Admittedly, I’m a leftie.
